Meet The Authors

Chuck Runyon, Author and
Cofounder of Anytime Fitness

As founder and CEO of Anytime Fitness, LLC, Chuck Runyon has been instrumental in the development of the world's largest co-ed fitness franchise, earning a reputation in the industry for his creativity and innovation.

An Original Fitness Rebel himself, Chuck doesn't hesitate to look you straight in the eye and confirm what you already know: Working Out Sucks. Committed to changing the way people relate to the fitness industry (and the way the fitness industry relates to people), Chuck aims to reach all the sweat haters, excuse makers and busy people who hate working out. How's he going to do it? By starting a new conversation about fitness. That means less talk about treadmills and tight abs, and more talk about living an outrageously fun and fully engaged life that is improved by your physical condition, instead of limited by it.

Dave Mortensen, Cofounder of
Anytime Fitness

Say hello to one of the Original Fitness Rebels.

Born and raised less than five miles from the Anytime Fitness headquarters in Hastings, Minnesota, Dave Mortensen feels right at home at the corporate offices. Dave attended college on a wrestling scholarship, where his primary studies included physical fitness and business.

Dave began his career in fitness at the front desk of a club operated by a well-known chain of Midwestern gyms, quickly working his way up to manager. Little did he know, but it would be at this same club where Dave would meet his future business partner, Chuck Runyon. After teaming up, Dave and Chuck spent the next several years traveling the country, providing a variety of consulting services for fitness clubs of all sizes and types.

In 1995, the duo purchased their first club together, driving membership from 500 to 4000. A few years later, Dave turned his focus toward information technologies, helping develop a wide-range of security, usage tracking and billing systems. In addition to implementing new information technologies, Dave and Chuck approached their membership to find out what they really wanted in a fitness club - and the Anytime Fitness business model was born.

Dave brings an inspiring passion for the fitness industry and commitment to excellence to Anytime Fitness - and The Fitness Rebellion.
